Rivian Q3 Deliveries Beat Wall Street, But Shares Slip

The EV maker sold 19,248 vehicles from July through September, thanks partly to the new R2, but needs a strong finish to hit its annual target.

Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter, beating the 18,000 that analysts expected. The Drive reports the number is a strong result, helped along by the long-awaited R2, which is bringing more budget-conscious buyers into the brand.

But the good news wasn't enough for investors. Rivian's stock fell 2% after the announcement. The Drive notes that Wall Street had hoped the company would raise its full-year sales guidance again, as it did earlier this summer.

To hit its own target of between 65,000 and 75,000 vehicles for all of 2026, Rivian needs to sell about 23,000 more SUVs and trucks before New Year's Day. That's a big ask for the fourth quarter, even with the R2's momentum.

For shoppers, the R2 is clearly pulling in buyers who were waiting for a lower-priced Rivian. If you've been eyeing one, the company's ability to meet its year-end goal could affect availability and incentives. The Drive says the Q3 total was "handily better" than what Wall Street wanted to see, but the market still wanted more.

What it means for owners: Rivian is growing, but the pressure is on. A strong Q4 could mean more production and better service support down the road.
