Lexus LS400 Street Fighter Replica Is Real and Destined for Destruction

A pixel-perfect replica of the LS400 from Street Fighter II's bonus stage was built for a sweepstakes, and it's as blocky as the sprite.

The Drive reports that a custom Lexus LS400 built to match the one from Street Fighter II’s bonus stage was unveiled at ComplexCon in Los Angeles. The builder is Dennis McCarthy’s Vehicle Effects, and the car looks like it stepped straight out of the arcade game.

The wrap has a blocky, pixelated texture that mirrors the sprite work from the source material. But it’s not just a wrap: the grille surround protrudes from the front of the car, also blocky, and the side mirrors and door handles are shaped the same way. The headlights and turn signals appear to have removable pixelated covers hiding functional hardware underneath.

Inside, The Drive says the LS was fully reupholstered with embroidered patterns in the headrests reading “YOU” and “WIN.” There’s also a coin-slot change holder that works as a seat warmer. The car is being given away, along with a cash prize of $25,400.69.

For those unfamiliar with the game: players had 40 seconds to smash the LS400 as violently as possible to earn points. The more damage, the higher the score. The Drive notes that Street Fighter II wasn’t the first Capcom game to include a car-smashing bonus stage; Final Fight had one about a year and a half earlier, using a Toyota Crown.

The winner should enjoy the LS while it lasts. As the source puts it, eventual destruction by a muscle-bound mercenary or demon is part of the risk.
