2027 BMW iX4: Coupe-Style EV, Same Price Premium
BMW's new electric coupe-SUV arrives in March 2027 with up to 603 hp and a $2,200 premium over the iX3.

BMW is bringing the roofline that defined the X4 into the electric age. The 2027 iX4, as MotorTrend reports, is essentially a sleeker version of the upcoming iX3—1.1 inches shorter in height but sharing the same wheelbase, length and width. The styling is the main reason to choose it over its boxier sibling.
The iX4’s sloping fastback roofline tapers to emphasize the rear haunches, and it gets standard M Sport styling that’s optional on the iX3. Wide, slim headlights and taillights are shared between the models. That roof will likely mean less headroom and cargo space, though a small frunk remains.
Inside, the iX4 mirrors the iX3 with a 17.9-inch trapezoidal touchscreen running BMW’s latest OS, a Panoramic Vision display spanning the A-pillars, and available 3D head-up display and Dolby Atmos Harman Kardon audio. It also gains a MagSafe wireless charging pad. Vegan leather and backlit fabric trim sit under a full-length glass roof.
Powertrain and range
Both iX4 and iX3 ride on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform with a 112.2-kWh battery pack using cylindrical cells. Charging hits 15.4 kW on Level 2 and up to 400 kW on Level 3 through an 800-volt architecture with NACS compatibility. Bidirectional charging lets the iX4 act as a power bank.
The Heart of Joy control unit coordinates accelerator, brake, steering, and stability systems at millisecond speeds. MotorTrend says their experience in the iX3 suggests it delivers superb driving feel.
The iX4 launches with a 50 xDrive dual-motor AWD powertrain making 463 hp and 475 lb-ft, estimated at 4.7 seconds to 60 mph and up to 428 miles of range. Later comes the iX4 M60 xDrive with 603 hp and 645 lb-ft, hitting 60 mph in a claimed 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 149 mph. No range estimate yet for the M60, but MotorTrend notes it should “greatly exceed” 300 miles.
The M60 also gets M-spec adaptive suspension, an electronic rear differential, 21-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and extra LED detailing around the grille and lights. It also gets paddle shifters, hinting at a simulated gears function for more driver involvement.
Pricing and timing
The iX4 50 xDrive starts at $67,550, which is $2,200 more than an equivalent iX3 50 xDrive in M Sport trim.
That premium is about half what the price gap was between the X4 and X3, so more buyers may find the style upgrade worth the cost. The iX4 will be built in Debrecen, Hungary, with deliveries of the 50 xDrive starting in March 2027 and the M60 following soon after. If you can live with less headroom and cargo space, the iX4 offers the same electric bones in a more dramatic package.
