2027 BMW iX3 M60 xDrive: 603 HP, Spring 2027

BMW's Neue Klasse electric SUV gains M-tuned power, adaptive suspension, and a sub-4-second 0-60 mph time.

MotorTrend reports that BMW will launch the 2027 iX3 M60 xDrive, a high-performance version of the brand's Neue Klasse electric SUV, alongside the sleeker iX4 M60 xDrive. The model arrives at BMW's plant in Debrecen, Hungary, in spring 2027.

The iX3 M60 xDrive uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. MotorTrend says that drops the 0-60 mph time to a claimed 3.9 seconds, but BMW's estimates are often conservative, and real-world times could be closer to 3.5 seconds. Top speed rises to 149 mph from the 50 xDrive model's 130 mph.

The performance gains come from hardware changes, not just software. The rear motor has a different stator and stronger inverter than the 50 xDrive's unit, while the front asynchronous motor stays the same. Adaptive suspension dampers, a rear electronically controlled differential, variable sport steering with different anti-roll bar links, additional chassis bracing, and M Sport brakes with red or blue calipers all help handle the extra power.

BMW's Heart of Joy control computer coordinates driving systems for quicker responses. MotorTrend notes that the system already gives the 50 xDrive model higher dynamic cohesion than earlier BMW EVs.

Visually, the M60 wears standard M Sport body styling. MotorTrend reports that the pictured version shows Malachite Dark Green Metallic paint from the BMW Individual palette. A black diffuser-like panel sits in the lower rear bumper, and there is a finned roof spoiler. Standard 21-inch wheels are offered in multiple M designs. Additional animated LED lighting around the grille, headlights, and taillights is standard on the M60, and yellow LED headlight accents are optional, linking the SUV to BMW endurance racers.

Inside, most features mirror the 50 xDrive: a 17.9-inch trapezoidal touchscreen and BMW's pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display. A 3D head-up display and highly bolstered sport front seats with illuminated M logos are optional. The M Sport steering wheel has a red stripe at 12 o'clock and paddle shifters that likely control regenerative braking strength or could enable simulated gear changes, similar to the coming all-electric M3 sedan. A digital sound profile linked to vehicle speed provides engine-like audio.

BMW has not announced official range figures, but MotorTrend expects nearly 400 miles on a full charge given the 50 xDrive's 434-mile EPA estimate. The 800-volt electrical architecture supports charging at up to 400 kW through an integrated NACS port.

Pricing is unannounced, but MotorTrend expects it to cost many thousands more than the iX3 50 xDrive's roughly $63,000 starting point. Could a full M version with additional motors arrive later? MotorTrend leaves that open.
