BMW M5 Facelift Spied With Sharper Neue Klasse Styling

Camouflaged prototypes of the updated M5 show a snoutier nose, toothier bumper, and a redesigned interior expected by 2027.

BMW's M5 is getting a significant facelift, and spy photographers have caught a camouflaged prototype testing at the Nürburgring. The updated sedan adopts the automaker's Neue Klasse design language, bringing sharper, more angular headlights and a more pronounced shark-nose front end. The kidney grille remains prominent, though it doesn't require functional cooling vents—a small slit sits below instead.

The front bumper takes on a toothier, more technical appearance, which Jalopnik says gives the M5 a more agreeable face than the current, somewhat pudgy model. The side profile will likely see new side skirts and wheel designs, while the rear gets updated taillight graphics and reshaped bumpers and diffusers. The changes are less dramatic out back than up front.

Inside, the M5 is expected to receive a complete overhaul to align with the Neue Klasse cars, as earlier spy shots have shown. The facelift also should bring major technology improvements and likely powertrain upgrades, particularly for the plug-in-hybrid M5 and fully electric i5 models.

Jalopnik reports the updated 5 Series is expected to debut at some point in 2027, with the M5 following closely after or possibly at the same time.
