Jaguar Type 01: A Design-Led Electric Sedan With 1,015 HP

Car and Driver gets an early look at Jaguar's upcoming all-electric sedan, finding a striking shape that prioritizes style over cabin space but delivers impressive performance and charging.

Car and Driver has published its first detailed look at the Jaguar Type 01, the all-electric sedan that Jaguar has been teasing. According to the outlet, the production car has barely changed from the concept, and design dictated nearly every decision.

Car and Driver reports that power comes from three electric motors that produce 1,015 hp and 1,007 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful road car Jaguar has ever built. The publication estimates a 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds. The 118-kWh battery delivers an estimated 400 miles of range, or about 320 miles at 75 mph.

Charging is versatile, with a split-pack setup that works on both 400-volt and 800-volt chargers. On a 350-kW DC fast charger, Jaguar says a 10 to 80 percent charge takes about 22 minutes, and adding 200 miles of range takes about 13 minutes.

Design-wise, the Type 01's long hood and layered body shape are striking. Car and Driver notes that the charging port on the front fender is unusually large, scaled up to match the fender's proportions. The rear end uses camera-mirror setups instead of windows. The body bulges outward below the windows, giving a layered, nested look.

Inside, the design creates limits. Car and Driver says rear door openings are small, and one tall staffer had trouble getting in. The cabin's central spine rises high under a low ceiling, which can feel claustrophobic. Front passenger footroom is tight because of a large casting, and the trunk is small.

Technology abounds despite the space issues. Car and Driver notes a 24-inch OLED touchscreen handles primary controls. Each row gets a 7-inch portrait touchscreen for climate and seat adjustments. The system runs on Nvidia-based architecture with over-the-air updates, saving wiring. The audio system includes a 13-speaker soundbar plus additional speakers for noise cancellation.

Standard all-wheel steering with up to 6 degrees of movement helps this long car turn. Air springs and adaptive dampers are standard, and Jaguar says weight distribution is 50:50.

Deliveries are expected to start in mid-2027; order books are open. Pricing hasn't been finalized but is expected between $120,000 and $130,000, per Car and Driver.

This is a car that wears its design on its sleeve, and for that you pay with interior room and convenience. It won't suit anyone who regularly carries adults in the back or needs cargo space. But if you want a unique electric sedan with 1,015 hp and fast charging, the Type 01 delivers.
