Rivian's Halloween mode goes Ghostbusters with licensed sounds and games

The automaker's annual seasonal update includes officially licensed sounds, a spooky voice assistant, and two games for the infotainment screen. Owners can download it starting October 9.

Jalopnik reports that Rivian's annual Halloween mode update is going live on October 9, and this year's theme is officially licensed from the 'Ghostbusters' franchise.

The automaker secured a deal with Sony to use the movie's sounds and imagery. The update includes several theme packs, such as Ecto-1, Proton Pack, Slimer, Ghost Trap, and Peter Venkman, which play LED light shows and change the sound the car makes when it locks or unlocks.

Rivian's voice assistant will also take on a spooky tone for the season. Owners can use it to activate light shows. While the car is parked, the infotainment screen offers two Halloween games. A Trick-or-Treat mode starts a light show and plays the original 'Ghostbusters' theme song.

The automaker also built a one-off Ecto-1-inspired R1S for the occasion, which Jalopnik calls the Ecto-R1. It wears authentic graphics from the film and wears a roof rack with functional accessories like sirens, spotlights, a radar dish, and side tanks that mimic the original Ecto-1. The roof rack was fabricated in-house by Rivian's Special Projects team.

A promotional video for the update features Bill Murray, who starred in the original 1984 film.
