BYD third-gen Tang interior: 35-inch screen, 5-min charge

Electrek reports BYD showed the five-seat SUV's cabin with dual massive displays and ultra-fast charging.

The third-generation BYD Tang is coming later this year, and Electrek has the first look at its interior. The cabin features two screens that dominate the dashboard: a 35.4-inch integrated display and a 30-inch panoramic screen spanning nearly the full width.

BYD calls the interior design inspired by sci-fi aircraft control consoles. It comes in two color schemes: Dune Beige and Amber Brown. The SUV seats five, with zero-gravity captain's chairs in the second row offering over 1,000 mm of legroom.

On the tech side, Electrek says the Tang packs BYD's latest Blade Batteries 2.0 and Flash Charging, which can take the battery from 10% to 70% in about five minutes. Range estimates under China's CLTC cycle go up to 528 miles (850 km), depending on battery pack size. Two packs are offered: 88.7 and 105.8 kWh.

The third-gen Tang is 5,045 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. It also gets BYD's DiSus-A adaptive air suspension and God's Eye B advanced driver-assist system.

No pricing yet, but Electrek notes the larger Great Tang starts at about 239,900 yuan ($35,500). The five-seat Tang should come in at a lower price, making it a more affordable flagship option.

For the money, you're getting a tech-heavy SUV with charging times that rival filling a gas tank. The question is whether it will match the demand of its bigger sibling, which has sold over 10,000 units monthly since June.
